WEL NSW is an independent, feminist, non-profit, non-party political lobby group founded in 1972. Building on nearly 45 years of feminist advocacy work, WEL NSW is looking to build our digital presence, to maintain and grow our social communities, and share our work with online audiences - through our website and our social media channels.

We are recruiting 2 volunteer Digital Coordinators to support our Membership, Engagement and Fundraising Coordinator in managing our online communities. This role would suit individuals with experience developing highly shareable content on current affairs or social issues. Final year or postgraduate media and communications students or applicants who have experience in management of social media channels and digital content production are invited to apply. Ideally the volunteers will start in November or December 2016.

The Digital Coordinators will be expected to:

  1. Research relevant content on current feminist issues to share with WEL’s supporters and followers e.g FaceBook posts, tweets, video clips.

  2. Create new content - either written, visual or video format to share online.

  3. Work with WEL’s Membership, Engagement and Fundraising Coordinator to develop a

    schedule of posts and tweets across the week.

  4. Manage and moderate day-to-day activity on social media platforms.

  5. Be part of a social media team, led by WEL’s Membership, Engagement and Fundraising

    Coordinator, to achieve our goals and reach audience targets.

Essential skills:

  1. Willingness to promote WEL’s feminist goals and awareness of issues of equality facing Australian women.

  2. Strong written skills - experience in writing for digital platforms but also ability to create content for email marketing campaigns is required. Experience writing blog posts, op ed pieces and content for emails requiring political judgement will be highly regarded.

  3. Experience managing and moderating online communities.

  4. Experience creating, curating content and scheduling posts/tweets for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

  5. Scheduling and content management experience using platforms like Facebook, Hootsuite and/or TweetDeck.

  6. Willingness to track current affairs and liaise with WEL’s Membership, Engagement and Fundraising Coordinator to respond to issues as they happen.

  7. Track record of increasing social media audience numbers and engagement.

  8. Experience using graphic design platforms such as Canva, Indesign and/or Photoshop to

  9. Create original content.

  10. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including building relationships with people of diverse backgrounds.

  11. Sound organisational skills, including high-level computer skills.

  12. Ability to work autonomously in a team environment.

  13. Ability to attend meetings with WEL’s Membership, Engagement and Fundraising Coordinator and WEL NSW Executive Committee both inside and outside business hours.

Desirable skills:

  1. Familiarity with the women’s NGO sector.

  2. Ability to think innovatively about communicating feminist messages.

  3. Experience using NationBuilder or similar digital platform.

  4. Basic video editing skills.

Terms & conditions of engagement

This is a volunteer role. Applicants are asked to commit to the equivalent of one day per week for a 12 month period. The day per week can be spread over several days to increase ability to be reactive and manage daily social media activity.
